Otres is a beautiful sandy beach located southeast of Ochheuteal roughly fifteen minutes from the Golden Lions. Similar to Ochheuteal and Serendipity, Otres has a string of bars and restaurants lining the coast, but what Otres does not have is the loud revelrous atmosphere and pounding music. Otres is much quieter, and has a far more relaxed vibe to it, and is quickly becoming a far more popular beach to those wanting less crowds and noise, and more peace and quiet. More and more tourists are spending their entire holidays on Otres.
New and Improved Infrastructure
Otres is growing up as well - what was once a place where gasoline-powered generators provided all electricity (and even then, only a few hours per day), now has permanent city power, a mini mart and a newly paved access road. Once a quiet, out-of-the-way hamlet at the end of a virtually impassible road, Otres is now one of Sihanoukville's most sought after beach locations. Host to many interesting guesthouses boasting interesting names and interesting architecture, Otres has a much more eclectic and bohemian feel to the more mainstream Ochheuteal.
There are two sections of Otres that are separated by a huge swath of unoccupied beach set for future development. The section nearest to town is home to nearly two-dozen beachfront bars, restaurants and bungalows. Past the long empty beach is Otres II, where besides a small Cambodian village, you can find another set of beachfront accommodation, such as Secret Garden, a high-end bungalow resort with the only swimming pool on Otres.
The Otres Market
Collaboration between business owners has given rise to the weekly Otres Market
, An open market of sorts where all kinds of goods and services are for sale by local expats from all over town - from homemade Absinthe, to snacks, hair styling, and entertainment. The Otres Market is held every Saturday from 12PM onwards at the Estuary.
